An explosion near a northwest Charlotte chemical plant caused a massive fire Tuesday morning, according to the fire department. The explosion happened around 7:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at a building along Tar Heel Road near Bond Street.

Charlotte Fire says quick response allowed firefighters to contain a fire following an explosion at a warehouse in northwest Charlotte Tuesday morning.

Crews said there is no danger to the immediate area at this time.

Charlotte firefighters are battling what is now a two-alarm fire in northwest Charlotte. Shortly before 7:30 a.m., the Charlotte Fire Department responded to the 1700 block of Tar Heel Road because of the fire.
