The goal of the AV foundry business is to provide vehicles that have already been engineered and validated for AV deployment to the companies developing the automated driving systems. For Hyundai, this is likely a very smart move.

The Ioniq 5 robotaxi will also be made at Hyundai’s new Georgia factory, giving Waymo a domestically manufactured car. The I-Pace is made at a plant in Austria. Waymo expects to start testing the new cars by late 2025, with service due in the “years to follow.”
