(CBS DETROIT) — A Westland woman surprised her family at Christmas with news that she won a $1 million Powerball prize, the Michigan Lottery reports.
LANSING, MI -- A Westland woman decided to keep a secret from her family for months after she won a $1 million Powerball prize last year. Catherine Martin, 63, matched all five white numbers drawn -- 07-10-21-33-59 -- in the Powerball drawing held on Sept. 4 to win the prize.
Catherine Martin said she plans to invest the money as well as save for retirement and her grandkids' college funds.

A ticket with all six numbers in Saturday evening’s Powerball drawing was sold in Oregon and the player has the option of receiving the $329 million jackpot in 30 installments or a $146.4 million lump sum payment before federal taxes.
