The Falcons brought Jeff Ulbrich back to Atlanta, naming their former assistant as defensive coordinator on Saturday night. Ulbrich, who spent much of last season as the New York Jets' interim coach,

Robert Saleh hired Ulbrich as the Jets’ defensive coordinator in 2021 after he was hired as head coach. Gang Green ranked last in yards and points allowed in Ulbrich’s first year as a full-time defensive play-caller. However, from 2022-23, the Jets finished in the top five in yards allowed under Ulbrich’s leadership.

The Jets formally interviewed Ulbrich for their opening. Ulbrich was thrown into the role of interim head coach on Oct. 8 after Robert Saleh was fired. The Jets went 3-9 under Ulbrich and finished 5-12 overall. Ulbrich is very popular among the players and in the Jets’ building, but he is considered a long shot to keep the job.
