Rupee depreciated 10 paise to settle at 83.79 against the US dollar on Monday, taking cues from equity markets that saw a steep fall of over 1 per cent amid volatile crude oil prices and significant foreign fund outflows.

Forex traders noted that rising crude oil prices and a strong U.S. dollar against major global currencies, driven by increased demand from importers at the month's end, exerted pressure on the local currency.

The Indian rupee depreciated by 11 paise to close at 83.80 against the US dollar on Monday, influenced by a decline in equity markets and volatile crude oil prices. Weak dollar against major currencies offered some support.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the local unit opened at 83.81 against the greenback, registering a loss of 2 paise from its previous closing level.
