EAST MEADOW, N.Y. -- Ilya Sorokin will do "everything to be ready" to play for the New York Islanders when they begin their regular season against the Utah Hockey Club at UBS Arena on Oct. 10.

"I feel really good," said Sorokin, who participated in his first team practice of training camp since undergoing offseason back surgery.

Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin was seen for the first time on the ice during training camp taking shots Wednesday morning. Sorokin, who has not participated in training camp due to offseason back surgery, was on another rink at Northwell Health Ice Center, taking shots from goaltending coach Piero Greco.

The goaltender practised Thursday for the first time since having back surgery in the off-season and told the media he is “going to do everything to be ready for opening night.”

Prior to the team's practice, Sorokin was on the ice with fellow goaltenders Semyon Varlamov and Marcus Hogberg, taking shots from a handful of NHLers. Sorokin did not join the group for the main practice but stayed on the other ice sheet, working with goalie coach Piero Greco.
