Talks between Indian and Chinese diplomats have opened options for the Asian rivals to resolve the conflict on their Himalayan frontier, India's army chief said on Tuesday. Ties between the nuclear-armed neighbours have been strained since clashes between their troops on the largely undemarcated frontier left 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers dead in 2020.

India’s army chief said resolving a border dispute with China will depend on negotiations and the issue still remains “sensitive,” signaling a more cautious approach from the military than recent diplomatic statements from the two countries.

Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Tuesday addressed key security challenges, including the situation with China, the tensions in Manipur and Myanmar, and India's approach to countering emerging threats.
