WEBJohnson County, Kentucky, was created by the legislature on February 24, 1843, carved from Lawrence, Floyd and Morgan counties. The county conducted its first business on April 1, 1844, and a courthouse was soon constructed in Paintsville.

WEBJohnson County is home to a growing number of trails throughout the county. These trails consist of walking/hiking trails around Paintsville Lake State Park, the Dawnkins Rail Trail, and several include picturesque waterfalls and historical sites.
WEBJ.R. Frisby is a lifelong resident of Johnson County and has served as Coroner since 1990. J.R. has earned the Master Coroner Award by the Kentucky State Coroner’s Association, which is the highest level of achievement for a coroner.
