WEBOct 21, 2021 · It's not as groundbreaking as people say - Denny O'Neil "reimagined" Batman in the 70s along the same lines as Miller, and remained with the character for much longer - but O'Neil's doesn't have an easy-to-jump-in beginning. So Year One ends up filling that role even though it draws a lot from what came before it.

Personally, I enjoy "The Killing Joke" and "The Long Halloween" because those were my first Batman comics. Year One is a fine read, but is very grounded compared to other Batman stories.
